"Soul Soliloquy: May 25 2013"

by John Charles

Longtime ACRInc contributor, and Jonesborough native, John Charles has worked remuneratively with popular success as an artist -- for whom ACR's publisher has posed as a model for varied paintings from casual to formal and has learned as an art student -- in many media over several decades, from street vendor to shop owner to gallery exhibitor, and from Gatlinburg to Los Angeles to Elizabethton and beyond. The State of Tennessee purchased and exhibits in government buildings several of his larger works. An alumnus of ETSU's Art Department, he is also an award-winning and tutoring mentor/member of the Watauga Arts League.

there will never be another today like this one. it is unique in all the days that have come and gone. the pressing question is always, "what do i do with it?" i'm glad we've chosen to meet here and visit for awhile. this is a joy.

parts of today are leftovers of yesterday. and today will supply part of tomorrow. every moment moves us closer to our permanent home in the past. that makes now vitally important. here and now we have our greatest power to decide and to act to create the picture of our lives!

this "now" is ever-present but very impatient. before we know it it has slipped past us to hide in the forever "past."

last week Jimmy was alive. suddenly he left the living and is locked in the past. "goodbye, ol' school chum." in my mind you will always be happy, zipping around in your little red pickup truck, hauling us laughing boys and girls in our "Baileyton days."

i sent a letter to him just a week before he died telling him we'd miss him at the dinner tonight. don't put off writing and calling all those who you care about! do it now.
