“Chive Talk”

"chive-talk: jazz veg-out"

(Fourth Wave poetry jam)
broccoli is boring.
asparagus aspirates too often.
carrots can't get it straight.
lettuce lets everybody do it.
eggplant is so regal.
free peas act silly.
tofu ain't tough enough to make it.
green beans string along pods of land-locked seeds.
spinach aches to charge the radishes and beets.
rudabega regales beggars
while wisteria whines.
vidalia onions cry for home soil
but it's just a ploy to tease the okra
frying on the spit.

potatoes puree in tomatinos
to play for keeps with squash
languishing stolid on the ground.
quesadillas hum for cheese.
turnips tear up indian corn
in the maze of Gardens By Gladys
when the walls come tumbling down.

then bees boogie for the sun
to bloom in brave array
on summer days pre-claimed
for glory.

cukes sweeten your pick.
get those babies down to The Lick.
it's time to brine.

shine on, flora fields, shine on.
there'll be a party in the pantry 'ere long,
served for a song of
snow's penance.
